The terms "Mask" or "Knight" are often used to refer to male characters who hold a Sailor Crystal - they cannot transform into a Sailor Senshi, but they can have their own form and powers granted by the astronomical body that protects them.

 

Another powerful option open for male characters - and females ones! - in the Edionan Headcanon is that of Cardian wielders. Cardians are the monsters that Ail and An commanded in Sailor Moon R, not all Edionans can summon these beings and those that can vary in skill greatly, but when properly trained Cardian users can pose quite the threat to friend or foe!

Civilians or background characters, categories that usually overlap, are characters that generally don't have any powers (or at least no special ones in the case of Edionans) and often aren't involved in the main plot, though this is not a rule of course. These characters usually include the friends and family of the main cast.
